Free WiFi for Foreigners in Taiwan

With the increase of mobile internet access users over the years and in order to enhance service quality and to satisfy the public need for internet access during outdoor leisure or business activities, the Executive Yuan and its respective agencies have set up more than 5,000 WiFi hotspots in select indoor government offices, tourist attractions, and public transportation stations to provide wireless internet access services. The service began providing Taiwanese citizens with free wireless internet and basic information services on October 7th, 2011. Its Service Set Identification (“SSID”) is iTaiwan and all are welcomed to come register and take advantage of this service.
For all members of the public possessing a mobile phone number, please visit the website http://itaiwan.gov.tw first. Once registration is complete, registrants can surf the internet at any Hotspot located within more than 5,000 indoor public offices displaying the iTaiwan icon shown below. The iTaiwan service provides users with 1M internet access bandwidth. Also, if you already have a TPE-Free or NewTaipei wireless account, you will not need to register again with iTaiwan. You can simply use your TPE-Free or NewTaipei account to log onto iTaiwan for internet access.

This new convenient service will allow people to check their e-mail or browse the internet while they are away from home or at government offices for business. We hope everyone will enjoy this service and inform your friends about iTaiwan. If you have any questions or suggestions about iTaiwan wireless service, please contact us via our toll-free telephone number 0800-081-051 or e-mail service@itaiwan.gove.tw.
